An ancient village green, pubs and walks

The Village Hall, Old School, St John’s Church and Golden Eagle pub share a pleasant setting on and around the ancient village green. The Old School by enjoyed a moment of fame in 1940 as the star of Village School, a World War II propaganda film showing how child evacuees adapted to village life. Popular annuals events include the village fair with classic cars in June, and the traditional Bonfire Night in November.

Amenities

The Golden Eagle pub in Ashley Green is a Grade II listed building and was an inn as far back as the 17th century. There are claims that it is haunted.

The Glebe Café & Playground is found behind the memorial hall on Two Dells Lane. With its large outdoor terrace and fully accessible children’s adventure playground, the village coffee shop/café at the head of the green is a buzzing community hub.

John’s Lane Farm Shop John’s Lane, off Hog Lane sells eggs, vegetables, preserves, cakes, Calor Gas and more from a working farm.

The Patch opposite John’s Lane Farm offers play and creativity for children and families in an open-air setting. Thoughtful and bespoke outdoors experiences for children, adults, friends and families. Crafted and prepared by professionals to support and enhance your wellbeing.

The White Hart is in the tiny hamlet of Whelpley Hill. A la carte menu and local beers. Log fires, garden, play area and heated all-weather marquee.

Ashley Green Farms, Forts and Fighters

This walk has both The Golden Eagle and White Hart pubs en route.

This 13.6km (8 ½ mile) circular route from Chesham offers options for shorter walks through the fields and woodlands around Ashley Green. Outstanding features range from an Iron Age fort to a World War II airfield from which American airmen took off on bombing raids.
