Echor Music – Tenebrae

4 April @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Echor’s passion is to inspire our local communities by creating breathtaking musical experiences across the Chilterns.
On Saturday 4 April they return to St John the Baptist Church in The Lee for ‘Tenebrae’.

From Echor  Music’s website:

‘Tenebræ, meaning “darkness”, is a centuries old Easter tradition in which candles are gradually extinguished, marking the quiet space before light returns; the suspended, uncertain moment of Easter Saturday.

In the original ritual, a single candle is left burning, a fragile symbol of life and hope when everything else appears lost. While it belongs to the Christian tratidion of Easter, the feeling it captures reaches far beyond it. Even in the deepest darkness, a small light endures.

In this performance, Echor draws inspiration from this powerful rite in an intimate candlelit performance for string quartet at St John the Baptist Church, The Lee. Carefully chosen music unfolds in the half light – reflective, restrained and deeply expressive, inviting us into a moment of meditative stillness at the heart of the Easter weekend.

Whilst Tenebræ has its origins in Christian worship, this performance is shared musical experience, open to anyone who wishes to pause, listen and reflect. It is also be a beautiful way to gather together over Easter, and with free entry for under 18s, it’s a rare chance to share this quiet hour with younger listeners too.

Tenebræ will last approximately 60 minutes without an interval.
