Chesham Submits Bid for UK Town of Culture 2028 – Press Release 1.4.26
Chesham is proud to announce the submission of its bid to become the UK Town of Culture 2028, marking an exciting milestone in the town’s cultural journey. We now look forward to hearing whether we will progress to the next stage of the selection process.
Developed by a dedicated group of local cultural leaders, organisations, and community champions, the bid reflects the ambition set out in Chesham’s Cultural & Creative Charter: to place creativity at the heart of the town’s future. It showcases Chesham’s rich heritage, vibrant artistic community, and commitment to expanding cultural opportunities for all residents.
This submission forms part of a long‑term cultural strategy which has been shaped in partnership with Bucks Culture and Buckinghamshire Council Regeneration.
Chesham Mayor Councillor Justine Fulford
‘The Town of Culture bid has been an exciting opportunity for residents, businesses, artists, performers and community groups to gather and shout about our cultural, natural and environmental heritage and how it has shaped the diverse and thriving entertainment, worship and leisure activities of the twenty first century. As a town, we are excited to share our best with a wider audience and encourage and promote the creativity and volunteering which is at the heart of our success as a community-minded town’.
