Christmas in Chesham
This long-standing and popular event signals the ‘official’ start of the festive season in Chesham. ‘Christmas in Chesham’. Formerly known as ‘Victorian shopping evening’ has been running since the 1990s. Last year’s event was bigger and better than ever.
A huge proportion of the local town and villages populations, and some visitors from further afield, came to shop, mingle, take part in funfair rides and watch entertainment. All are welcome! The big lights switch-on this year the lights will be switched on around 6.30pm by celebrity Alex Horne, of Taskmaster fame along with Chesham United FC. This will be from the main stage at the Sainsbury’s end of the High Street, after which there will be a programme of entertainment on stage.
Santa’s grotto can be found at Chapter Two, festive drinks at Trekkers and the Drawingroom, art and gifts at Good Earth Gallery, and more…Dozens of stalls across the High Street, in Broadway Baptist Church and the Oasis Partnership. See below for more details!
On the main stage
Thanks to our marvellous, local theatre The Elgiva, we have a wonderful line up of entertainment on the stage .
- 6pm Maggie Monk School of Dancing – Fun and glitzy dance numbers with a Christmas touch!
- 6.15pm Elgiva Youth Theatre –High energy singing and dancing to popular musical theatre songs and Christmas tunes!
- 6.30pm Lights Switch On Alex Horne and Chesham United Football Club
- 6.45pm Love and Squalor – Great covers of classic hits
- 7pm – Panda Players Concert Group – An exciting repertoire of Christmas songs and carols!
- 7.15pm Castle Street Dance Studios A selection of festive carols and spectacular Christmas dances
- 7.30 pm My Town Choir Spread the joy with beautiful singing from My Town Choir
- 7.45 pm BMT – Buckinghamshire Music Trust Pop/rock band
- 8.15 pm BIPA Classics from some of the much-loved Musical Theatre shows!
- 8.30pm Flamencoshow – Watch the super-talented flamenco dancers take to the stage in this exciting dance piece!
- 8.45pm Vivo d’Arte Be amazed by the Musical Theatre talent as these youngsters take to the stage Funfair
Funfair
This year the funfair will include a ‘funhouse’, as well as other rides and activities. It will be around Chesham Broadway..
Where to find Santa?
A treasure trove of delights in Chapter Two bookshop awaits … once again they have a legendary shop window in place. And, more importantly, this is where you’ll find Santa this year! Take your children to meet Father Christmas in the Chapter Two grotto and they will get a book, sweets and a picture. And you’ll be supporting the Hospice of St Francis too.

Broadway Baptist Church Opening its beautiful church for an indoor Christmas Market, featuring a variety of local businesses, crafts and a café serving tea, coffee and hot chocolate with mince pies. Supporting Compassion UK. There’ll be jewellery, cakes, fused glass, candles, an author selling his childrens books, baklava, sweets, pickles and chutneys, hand-drawn illustrations for cards, gifts and prints, macrame plant hangers, Christmas decorations, tote bags and more!
There will also be gingerbread people for children to decorate.
Trekkers Running a streetside bar on Market Square
The Drawingroom Serving warm festive drinks at the entrance to Francis Yard – mulled wine, and its specialities Fireside Apple, and Warm Lace, both with local apple juice from Chiltern Ridge.
Oasis Partnership At their new location on The Broadway – pop in and enjoy Oasis Partnership’s Christmas market from 6-9pm, with gifts, craft and food on sale.
The Good Earth Gallery Serving mulled wine while you can peruse art, cards, and gifts across three different rooms .
JPS Stationers Open for traditional advent calendars, and all your festive stationery, and gifts
Healthright Gifts and products for your health and festive wellbeing
Blue Haze Arts and Crafts For all your festive hobby requirement- and drop in for mulled wine and Christmas cake
And don’t forget some of our fantastic charity shops that will be open on the night, including the Shaw Trust, Oxfam, Cancer Research and RSPCA Charity Shop Chesham.
Outdoor stalls
A number of charities and community groups participating. You can play Name the Reindeer with Wycombe Homeless Connection, buy local history gifts from Chesham Museum, take part in the Toy Bank cuddly toy tombola and make your own Christmas decorations with the 2nd Chesham Scouts!
Join in and support this popular event in the town diary, run by Chesham Town Council. The weather currently is looks to be supportive too – a clear and still night is forecast.
